Wanda A. Dameron ~ VIRGINIA BEACH - Wanda Aloise Dameron, 84, passed away April 12, 2008. Born in Kansas, she was the daughter of the late Nelson and Audrey Jones. Wanda was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a member of Page United Methodist Church in Luray, Va. Wanda was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Leslie Y. Dameron (Yates) and her brother, Jerome Jones. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her three children, Dana Scott Dameron and his wife Tress Tafoya of Billings, Mont., Leslie Dameron III and his wife Glenrose of Luray, Va., and Candi Mayer and her husband Jack of Littleton, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at noon Tuesday at the home of her daughter, 209 E 79th St., Virginia Beach, with the Rev. Michael Simone officiating. Evangeline Cannell
Feb. 27, 1927 - June 3, 2007
WALKERTON - Evangeline Cannell, 80, of Cape Girardeau, MO, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2007, in her residence. She was born February 27, 1927, in Rushford, MN, daughter of Alfred and Mabel Haarstad Bakken. She and William Cannell were married August 14, 1946, in Kasson, MN. He passed away August 25, 2006. Upon graduation from high school in 1944, she moved to Washington, D.C., and worked for the FBI there and in St. Louis as a telephone operator until 1949. She and Bill lived in St. Louis, MO, Flagstaff, AZ, Charlottesville, VA, Washington, D.C., and Walkerton, IN, before retiring to Cape Girardeau in 2005. Her hobbies included playing bridge, gardening and sewing, and spending time with family and friends. Evangeline was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a current member of Centenary United Methodist Church of Cape Girardeau. Loving survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and David Jordan of Cape Girardeau; two sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy and Marian Cannell of Chapel Hill, NC, and Curtis and Pamela Cannell of Fort Worth, TX; seven grandchildren, Stephanie Jordan of Colorado Springs, CO, Monica Jordan of Cape Girardeau, Colin, Evan, Rowan and Brendan Cannell of Chapel Hill, NC, and Garrett Cannell of Fort Worth, TX; three brothers, David (Karen) Bakken of Rochester, MN, Donald (Avonne) Bakken of Cannon Falls, MN, and Allwyn (Shirley) Bakken of Rochester, MN; two sisters, Dorothy (Don) Morgan of Morristown, MN, and Elvira Bakken of Mcqueeney, TX; two brothers-in-law, Jim Long of Zamora, CA, and Arvid Boyum of St. Paul, MN; one sister-in-law, Pat Bakken of Wykoff, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Alfred Everett Bakken; and three sisters, Arlida Long, Mildred "Billie" Croll and Ruth Boyum. Friends may call Thursday, June 7, 2007, from 5 to 7 PM in McCombs Funeral Home, Cape Girardeau, MO. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 16, 2007, at 11:00 AM in Zion Lutheran Church, Dexter, MN. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

Glenn DeYoung
DeYOUNG Glenn Russell DeYoung On March 9, 2008; the beloved husband of the late Marjorie, and loving father of six children, Patricia, Gwendolyn, Jay, Karen, Cheryl, and David and five grandchildren, Jonathan, Kathryn, Susanna, Emily, and Noelle, died peacefully in Tucson, AZ. Formerly of the D.C. and Northern Virginia area for 42 years; was a resident of Green Valley, AZ for 13 years, employed by the Defense Mapping Agency for 33 years and was a licensed Capitan in the U.S. Merchant Marines. Interment will be private. A memorial service will be held at a future date.

Henry U. Herbert
June 10, 1916 ~ March 20, 2008 Henry Ulrich Herbert, 91, the son of the late Henry and Bessie Ryan Herbert, passed away March 20, 2008. He was born and raised on Kearny Street in Northeast Washington , DC . He worked for 38 years as a cartographer with the US Government. A veteran of WW II, he served in the Office of Strategic Services in China , Burma and India . After WW II, he raised his family in Northern Virginia ( Falls Church and Vienna ) and later retired to Pinehurst , NC after serving as Head, Aeronautical Chart and Information Center for the US Air Force in Washington DC . His love was carpentry and home-building, and he designed and built all the homes he lived in, including their lake house in Pinehurst , NC . Finding just playing golf to be boring, he volunteered to direct the initial hands-on restoration of the Southern Pines Theater (The Sunrise ). At Our Savior Lutheran Church , Henry applied past construction experience in heading up the construction committee of a large expansion project, and served as property manager on the church council. Due to declining health, he and his wife moved to Rocky Mount , NC in 2006. Mr. Herbert is survived by his wife of 62 years, Eleanor Marie Saxton Herbert; sons, Robert Steven Herbert and his wife, Sally of Suffolk, VA and Henry Edgar Herbert and his wife, Jean of Fredericksburg, VA; his daughter, Robyn H. Farnsworth and her husband, Barry of Rocky Mount, NC; his sisters, Ruth Fasnacht of Davidson, NC and Edna and husband Louis DeBernard of Palm City, FL., and six grandchildren. Arnott, Gordon John age 79, of Blacksburg, VA., formerly of Kirkwood, MO, and Sebring, FL., died March 11, 2008 at Montgomery Regional Hospital, Blacksburg, VA. Born June 2, 1928 in East Dearborn, MI, he was the son of the late John and Clara Arnott. Mr. Arnott was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years and mother of his children, the late Beverly Hadsell Arnott, formerly of Flint, MI., Kirkwood, MO., and Sebring, FL. He is survived by two children, David Arnott and wife Dinah of Blacksburg, VA.; Ann Arnott Cook and husband Tim Cook of O'Fallon, MO.; one brother, Bruce Arnott and his wife, Nancy, of Dearborn Heights, MI.; and five grandchildren, Katy Cook, Mary Arnott, Gordon D. Arnott, Travis Arnott, and Allison Arnott; dear uncle and great-uncle to numerous loving nieces and nephews and friend to many. Gordon John received bachelor's degree from Eastern Michigan University, Master's degree from U. of MI., Ann Arbor, and studied for his PH.D at Purdue University. Mr. Arno tt served in the army of Occupation in Japan through 1947. He raised his family in Kirkwood, MO., retired from Defense Mapping Agency after 33 years of service in 1988, made his retirement home in Sebring, FL., where after the passing of Beverly, later married Mildred.
